Not So B&W: Chad “echod”

I think one of the biggest things people tend to forget about musicians, actors, and other artists is that… at the root of all their work, art, and experiences, these creatives at the end of the day are just ordinary people — humans doing earthly things.

I want to start off by acknowledging that I’m not an artist with a huge personal catalog or social following; however, streaming and follower counts aside, what I want to share applies to artists at ALL levels — and the sentiment I hope to share and pass along not only with this writing, but with my artistry and advocations, is that EVERYONE, no matter who they are, goes through their own personal struggles.

I’ve been pretty transparent over the last year or so with my own personal mental health. After a tumultuous 2020 both around the world and in my own personal world, I found it just that much easier to cope with my feelings by sharing my experiences on social media. I don’t mean this in the sense of consistently tweeting sad messages or posting videos of myself crying (I’m too shy for that anyways). However, what I did put into continuous practice is to share all the ups and downs of going through my own healing process in the hopes that it inspires others out there to keep pushing forward for themselves. This included being transparent about my beginnings into self-care practices, anxiety medication prescriptions, weekly therapy sessions, and fights against struggles with suicide ideation. I strive to be a strong advocate of these experiences; and at their very core, these experiences are just some of the few things that make me… human.

Without delving too deep, after about 9 months of persistent work on myself, I’m happy to report that I’m doing much better and that my depressing past is behind me. At the end of the day, these experiences are personal and may very much differ from those of you, the reader, or any other person you can think of. We all live different lives, through different upbringings and experiences, with different opportunities and results. This is what makes us unique… this is what makes us human. For me, that meant going through an extremely dark period of my life and coming out the other end of it stronger, brighter, and better than ever. I’m taking all of these life lessons and sentiments with me now, and carrying them into my artistic pursuits as my own creative inspiration for future projects.

So to tie it all together — how do I interpret ‘humans doing earthly things’? To me, it means breathing in the same air but breathing out something different. Something unique. Something powerful and resonating. We are all here for a purpose, and although it may take an entire lifetime to find it, it’ll be revealed to you in some way. If you’re struggling right now, please hold on and stay with us for as long as you can. Hope is on the horizon.
